Yulya Garmash:
Three weeks ago American Linda Norris and Hungarian Georgia came to the
Lyceum. I have a lot of impression about it that’s why I’d to share my feelings
with you.
We started our preparations earlier. Our group was devised into 3 small
ones. Each group prepared his own excursion. I should say that it was really
interesting. We learned
something new and proved once again that we are able to work in a team.
I feel that the first meeting was very good. The guests told us about
the aim of their visit – to know more about industrial history of Donetsk. We
talked about miners and made a list of questions we would like to ask them.
Linda asked us to prepare the interview with workers. And I think that our
projects are rather good.
In general this meeting is a very good experience. We spoke without
preparations and it’s cool. It was very interesting to listen to native
speakers. Our guests are very sociable and pleasant people that is why everyone
took part in conversation. So, I think we will never forget this meeting.

One of the distinctive features of the Lyceum is that we always have an
opportunity to get acquainted with new interesting people. A striking example
is our meetings with Linda and Gyorgyi.
I must say we’ve learned a lot. It was really interesting and useful for us to know more about industrial history both in our region and in other countries. We met with miners, asked them vital questions, and talked about their lives in general. I was pleasantly surprised that Linda and Gyorgyi knew so much about our town. But at the same time I was ashamed, because I didn't know so important things about Donetsk. And now I want to learn more about industry of our town. Moreover, I'm interested in sociology. That's why I was most closely concerned.
All the things considered, these meetings gave us an invaluable experience and a large number of positive emotions. Linda and Gyorgyi, thank you ever so much!

I, personally, saw an American just once in my childhood. But when I was 10
I couldn't have a conversation with him.
But Linda's and her friend gave me such an opportunity. Our guests
proposed us to do an interesting project about miners. For me it was a pleasure
to know, that our industrial history was interesting for someone from abroad. I
also was concerned about other projects my classmates had prepared. At the
first our meeting we had a conversation and everyone had a chance to tell
something interesting about our industrial Donbass.
I hope to see Linda and her friend again.

I think practice
plays very important role in learning of
foreign languages. And I'm very glad that our Lyceum gives me an opportunity to
practice my English and check my knowledge. Recently our Lyceum was visited by a
group of Americans who came to Donetsk with the project about Donetsk industry
and its history. They wanted us to tell them some information about Donetsk
plants and mines. As for me I' m not very interested in Donetsk industry so it
was difficult for me to advise them some industrial place in Donetsk to visit.
But nevertheless I found what to say. I was very surprised that I understood
everything what these people were speaking about. Earlier I used to think that
American speech is very quick and difficult but everything was clear for me and
I was very glad of it. To my mind, the most interesting part of our meeting was
when we finished talking about industry and began talking just about our
everyday life. We asked Americans about how they live in the USA, what city
they live in, what traditions they have.
This spontaneous and live conversation was very interesting for me and while
going home after that lesson I was full of impressions. So, I can say that this
lesson was very useful for us and it would be great to organize something
similar again in future.
Yulya Kossinova:
In my
opinion every person who is learning foreign languages wants to communicate
with people for whom it is native and I’m not an exception. A few weeks ago we
had a conversation about industrial heritage of our city with American people. I was glad to listen to native
speakers and also was pleasantly surprised that I could understand everything what
they said. I haven’t known a lot about our industrial history and when we got a
task to do the project and interview with miners I was confused and didn’t know
how I had to do it. When I went deeply into this work I appreciated it very
much, because all we have known is that Donetsk is famous not only for its
beautiful historical places and sightseeing but also for its industrial
heritage. It’s great that we had an opportunity to communicate with foreigners
because we learnt not only the industrial history of the Donbass but also replenished our vocabulary with new words and
phrases. In conclusion, I can say that conversation with Americans really
appealed to me and I will not mind to iterate it again.
Vasilisa Kurnikova:
Once I heard about meeting with the real Americans in
the Lyceum and I thought how it would be great to have a conversation with
them. Likely, our teacher told us that we are going to see them and even to
cook our national cuisine dishes! I have been waiting for this moment for the
whole month thinking about questions I would like to ask them.
That day, when I entered the classroom, I saw two cute
elderly ladies. At first I could say nothing, because they had been talking all
the time and I didn’t want to interrupt them due to their perfect speech and
pronunciation. It was an honor for me to serve tables for Americans and to take
photos with them.
On the last day, after the lesson, Linda was
surrounded by the students who had an absolute fortune of topics to discuss
with her, we didn’t even want her to leave us.
It was a great experience for me for a number of
reasons. First of all, I found out more about my city and my family and the job
of a miner. Secondly, I have met Americans. It was very interesting and
exciting for me to see how they look like and what they like. And finally, I
have improved my language skills.
I wish they come again.
In the end of
April I and my classmates had a nice time with interesting women from America.
Linda and her friend came to our city to find some information about miners and
old factories and mines. That was really great that they decided to spend some
time with us. Our first day together was unusual and sweet. We cooked some pies, vareniki, pancakes
and had tea together. It was so unusual
to listen to native American speaking , because her speech was a little
different from the speech we used to hear , but it was rather good. She gave us
unusual home task to find a miner and to make an interview with him. I decided
to make a presentation about my great-gandfather . He was a good and
interesting person so it was a great honor for me to talk about
him. I was pleased that Linda liked my presentation.
To my mind, the most interesting was to speak with her after lessons. She told us about her work, country , home. She is amazing and I want to meet her again.

Maria Litvinova:
During all my life I dreamed to meet with Americans. At last, one
of my greatest wishes came true . Not long ago we had a wonderful meeting with
really great American people. Two amiable
women were our guests. From my point of view, it was superb. Our topic was rather interesting. We spoke
about industrial heritage of the Donbass . I was glad to listen to original
American conversation and I felt on top of the world, because I could
understand every word which encouraged
me very much to learn English better. I was present at this meeting with real pleasure. I hope it was the
first but not the last get-together with American people.
Evin Aktash:
We had an interesting meeting with Americans.
It was excited for me. This meeting was a little practice for me and our group.
And now I have good impressions. It helped me to improve my knowledge and to enrich
my vocabulary. I liked talking with them very much. They have an interesting
pronunciation. I hope that we left good impressions too. And I want to meet
them again.
