Sharing the expressions about Euro 2012
It all started in year 2008 when administration of UEFA decided that Ukraine is good enough to host Football Euro Championship. It was rather difficult to realize that few years later Ukraine would be the center of International Football and all the Euro countries would come and stay in Ukraine, participating in football matches…
Nobody has even dreamt of it, but everyone realized the pressure and responsibility would be on Ukraine. We had so much to do, so many things to improve, so many infrastructural objects to build and reconstruct, so many streets, boards, names to translate into English… It was looked like everybody even forgot about economical and political problems in the country…
Ukraine became one friendly family for the period of Euro! That’s great!
And finally when countdown started, we could be proud about things we did, conditions we made. It was difficult and we made it! No matter what! But show must go…and it was the “high time”, how the ads were showed, to introduce Ukraine and Poland in the best way possible, make the presence of foreigners as good as possible. Government decided to give everyone the chance to participate…
It invited a lot of people who wanted to help entirely voluntarily. Volunteers hold a positions all along the country, in every single place that hosted Euro championship … All the information was available in volunteer’s tents, where girls and boys were consulting foreigners about everything, answered every single question, and just were happy to provide any kind of help or information.
But let’s turn our glance to Euro matches!
Electrifying!!! Absolutely explosive! That’s how I could describe the situation, how could I name the ambiance. Every match gave the opportunity to see foreign fans, talk to them and just to feel you in this unrecognizable situation! That was AMAZING! It was few weeks away from the start of championship, but Donetsk was crowded with fans, fan zones were filled with people, markets, shopping malls, entertaining places were OVERCROWDED!
Newcomers tried to visit all the interesting places in such a huge city within only few days (period before and after every single match). Also they just wanted to have fun! Leisurely, without any haste, fans were walking along the streets, photographed with all the people who wanted to and just had chat.
The first match was England vs France – absolutely tempting! I have been waiting for it since draw. I was on the side of these two teams in the group, so the match was quite interesting, but talking about results - not so much. I gotta be honest – I didn’t think Ukraine could make any trouble for France and England.. And my expectations became true after England vs Ukraine match (I think you all remember that awkward moment with obvious goal referee decided not to count)…
And by the way – I attended that match. Won the ticket absolutely by the chance. It was quite a surprise when I’ve got a call from Internet-Market, where I bough smartphone few days before, notifying me that I won 1 ticket for this match!
I had an opportunity to use and practice my English, so before every match I went to the stadium and was talking to foreigners, asking them for a photo and just discussing their expressions about Ukraine. They were so talkative, no matter they were in foreign country and didn’t know me.. I think we should all inherit this spirit and kind behavior..
Talking about the matches I attended… It was quite difficult to find tickets few days away from the match, so I thought my kind of dream to attend the match Portugal vs Spain with one girl was shuttered..
But like before, I decided to talk to foreigners… That time I had an extra mission – to find us some tickets…
It started getting dark when we found a Norwegian who was selling tickets for the price lower than minimum price in Donbass Arena ticket windows.. The matter was they had some extra because a lot of fans from Norway hadn’t come… So we bought two tickets and attended THE GREATEST MATCH OF ALL CHAMPIONSHIP (In my humble opinion)… It was a great match, tremendous atmosphere with amazing end with penalties! No one expected such a demolition derby! I bet on Spain – and it won! That day I had a headache because of unrecognizable scream and hardly reached home, but it was worth it!
Actually – I had thought Germany had all the chances to win this Championship, but after 2 stupid and awkward goals from Italy I lost the hope.
And finally – Spain vs Italy… It was electrifying! My expectations were approved by confident and effective game Spain was showing! It was absolute punishment from Spain to the team who defeated Germany earlier so I was watching with admiration!
Few weeks passed… and all foreign fans have gone… The atmosphere disappeared, and the spirit vanished… Ukraine continued to live its own life with political misunderstanding in the face of our honored Pres. Everything became normal and usual… such as it is now… But I have memorialized so many moments during Euro 2012 championship, so many feelings!! Hope to keep this party going…
